Epsom Salts are such a great inexpensive and therapeutic addition to a bath. But don’t stop there because they can also be used as:
- a Body Scrub – add a spoonful of crushed Epsom salts to a palm full of body wash and exfoliate damp skin.
- to create Wavy Hair – mix a teaspoon of salts + a few drops of olive (or jojoba) oil + 1/4 cup H20 in a spritzer bottle and mist on damp hair.

The way I read it was that you just spray the mixture in the hair and your hair automatically curls. I don’t think this is the case though.

/ February 6, 2012Hi Mandy! Thank you for your question. The idea is that the mixture is supposed to give you beachy waves like you get from being in the ocean. Ideally, it should be as simple as spraying the mixture on damp hair and letting it air dry.
However, results will definitely vary… it will work better in humid climates, it won’t work as well on pin straight hair, etc. But you definitely aren’t supposed to have to use a curling iron or any heat. Scrunching with your hands would only help so that’s a good added tip for sure!

So basically, the mixture is supposed to mimic ocean water (plus a little oil for shine and moisture since the salt can be drying) and give you that beachy hair that happens naturally from being in salty water. Spray the mixture on damp hair, do a little scrunching with your fingers as it air drys and HOPEFULLY you’ll get some nice waves. However, results will definitely vary and I’m hoping this will work for your super straight hair! I tried out the wavy hair salt spray…love it! I have medium-thick hair that tends to have large, loose, undefined waves when I air-dry it and easily blow-dries straight. When I use the spray, it looks nice and wavy (not curly, though).
Tips:
- Use an empty body spray bottle (didn’t wash it), and the salt spray will have a light scent to it like commercial products, only you get to choose the scent. (Fades over time, though.)
- Scrunch hair all over after spraying it…then leave it alone. Resist all urges to scrunch further…it will only mess it up.
- Let hair air-dry completely and avoid sitting back in chairs (or anything else that might mess up your waves).

/ April 26, 2012I am def. going to try this. I used to use John Frieda’s Beach Blonde Ocean Waves Spray ..it was amazing. They stopped making it (of course!) There are many that have tried to copy it and failed. (I know, I have a cabinet full of them, much to my sorrow) Some of them are absurdly expensive. There are a few bottles of the original left to be had, some of them going for $150.00 a bottle. Which they can keep!. Going to try to make my own now. Spray damp hair, scruch and go!!
