Love Lavender?

If you’re a big fan of lavender then you will love this Lavender Aromatherapy Stick by Aura Cacia. It is made with 100% pure lavender essential oil so it smells just like the real stuff. I’ve been using it as my everyday perfume lately and I’m really loving it.

Some pluses (aside from the wonderful scent itself) — it’s under $10, it’s easy to carry with you, it promotes relaxation, and it never gives me headaches (like many conventional perfumes). The stick also comes in Tea Tree (great for bug bites & blemishes), Eucalyptus (helps with cold symptoms) and Peppermint (excellent for headache relief).

DIY Air Freshener

Everyone loves a nice smelling space, but unfortunately so many of those lovely smelling air refresheners truly aren’t so lovely at all. Most air fresheners actually contain hormone-disrupting chemicals (like VOCs) and since disrupting your hormones is definitely not on a healthy agenda, I highly suggest making a switch to natural fragrances. One really easy way to make a delicious smelling home fragrance involves just 2 ingredients: essential oil + water.

Combine in a spray bottle:

40-45 drops total of your favorite essential oil(s)
1 cup H2o

And that’s it! You now have your very own homemade, all natural air freshener to mist around your rooms, on your sheets, etc.

Some essential oil combinations I highly recommend (all essential oils mentioned are under $10 per 0.5 fl oz bottle and a little goes a really long way):

sweet orange + cinnamon
lavender + sage
peppermint + tangerine

Your home will smell lovely and your mood will be positively impacted by the aromatherapy benefits of the essential oils — definitely a win-win!

Bring the Spa to Your Shower

Want a spa-like experience, but can’t even find time to make yourself a nice, hot bath? Well there’s another option! Try these shower infusers by bath by bettijo for some instant aromatherapy. Simply add one of these little wafers to your next hot shower and you’ll instantly have the scent of sweet peppermint infusing the air and melting your stress away.

Now you really don’t have any excuse not to treat yourself! I just love how it makes a shower that much more therapeutic and fun! This peppermint variety is especially great for when you’re having sinus issues or are just plain old tired.

How to: (1) Wet a tablet, (2) place it on the shower floor (*out of the direct water stream*) and (3) let the at-home spa time begin!

Aromatherapy in a Cupcake?!

I have a very talented and creative friend who is a fashion designer by day and cupcake genius by night/weekend! She recently made me the most unique cupcakes I have ever tasted. These little delights had lavender-infused vanilla cake with lavender, honey cream cheese icing (there were actually little pieces of edible lavender)!

If you love the smell of lavender then you’ll probably love this combination. This is just one of the many varieties of cupcakes that my fellow blogger and friend has come up with so far…can’t wait to see what’s next! :)

Commercial Air Fresheners – not so refreshing

A 2007 study conducted by the Natural Resources Defense Council found that 12 of 14 different brands of household air fresheners contained phthalates, chemicals known to disrupt hormones and cause birth defects in male genitalia in animals. Some studies have linked phthalates to developmental and reproductive problems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is in addition to the common headache and sinus issues that are linked to so many commercial air fresheners.

But there is good news! There are a lot of natural options out there for air fresheners, even ones that could benefit your health through aromatherapy.
