Product of the Week

One of my latest and most enjoyed healthy snacks are these spicy little pumpkin seeds by Eden Foods. With soy sauce, garlic and cayenne they have rich flavor with a nice little kick. High in protein and fiber as well as iron, magnesium and zinc, they make a nutritious and energizing snack.

Let me know if you give them a try!

Crispy Green Giveaway!

Crispy Green’s freeze-dried fruit snacks are shockingly delicious. I say “shockingly” because  when I saw “freeze-dried” I didn’t expect such delicious flavor…flavor SO similar to the actual piece of fruit! After trying several of the varieties (all tasty), the mango is definitely my favorite. The full choice of flavors include: Fuji Apple, Asian Pear, Banana, Mango, Peach, and Pineapple.

Wondering how they’re made? The water is simply removed from the fresh fruit in cold (freezing) vacuum conditions, leaving behind the essence of the fruit in the form of light and crispy goodness. So that’s it – the water is taken away, but nothing is added. Take the Crispy Apples for example — Ingredients: Fuji Apples. That’s it. One ingredient – the fruit – and nothing else! They’re a fun snack and especially great for when you want something sweet yet healthy. Added bonus – they won’t rot or bruise when storing/transporting :)

Would you like to try out all of the delicious flavors, including some of the FruitziO line (fruit + a touch of cane sugar)?

Giveaway – CORE Foods

I am so excited to announce my 3rd giveaway, which is sponsored by CORE Foods aka the maker of the first FRESH nutrition bar! There are so many bars out there, but to actually find one that is not super-processed, nutritious, delicious, and great for every day eating as well as for athletes — now that is hard to find! But CORE is truly one of a kind with a mix of just 6 fresh, raw, 100% organic ingredients. I am a huge fan because they actually taste like real food, they can’t be on a shelf for months on end (= your body can process them much better), they have just the right amount of sweetness, and they’re high in protein.

Now here is your chance to win some and find out for yourself!

How to win:

  1. Be a follower of
  2. Visit CORE Foods to check them out
  3. Leave a comment below and tell me what flavor looks most appealing (Raw Almond & Raisin or Raw Cashew & Cacao)
  4. “Like” CORE on Facebook for an extra entry (please leave a separate comment letting me know )
  5. Tweet about this giveaway to receive an extra entry (again, separate comment)
  6. “Like” this post to receive an extra entry (separate comment)

You have until 9pm EST on Sunday, January 23rd to enter. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Monday, January 24th. Good luck!!

I recently discovered this site called Health Designs and decided to place a rare online order.  I have to say that I am loving this site now for two main reasons: (1) the wonderful selection of some of the best natural health and beauty products and (2) the awesome prices.  I found so many of my favorite brands at the lowest prices I’ve seen. Love that and love how you get to pick an unlimited amount of available free samples!

I’ve never been one for online shopping, but this is one website that makes me want to skip the health store.  Shipping is currently free on First Class USPS orders over $25 and it’s just so fun to see how much you can put in your shopping cart for that price point (my order below).  Also, if you’re a first time buyer use Discount Code FTC5DO to get $5 off your first order. Writing this post is really making me want to place another order today! I highly suggest checking them out –

This is exactly what I got for $25:

  • Avalon Organics, CoQ10 Facial Cleansing Milk 8.5 fl oz
  • Yogi, DeTox Tea 16 Tea Bags
  • Now Foods, Unsweetened Medium Coconut 10 oz
  • ShiKai, Hand & Body Lotion Honeysuckle 8 fl oz
  • Chandrika, Ayurvedic Soap 2.64 oz
  • Queen Helene, Aloe Deodorant 2.7 oz
  • 6 free samples (like Nordic Naturals, DHA Sample Pack 500 mg Strawberry 2 softgels)

All Natural Gourmet Ketchup

Ketchup is not my favorite condiment so I don’t usually get too excited about eating it, but Sir Kensington’s Gourmet Scooping Ketchup actually makes me want to talk about this sweet red sauce. How would I describe it? Well their classic version pretty much tastes like normal ketchup, just a lot better.  And then there’s their spiced version, which has the perfect amount of unique flavor and hotness compliments of an infusion of chipotle peppers, cilantro, lime juice, agave nectar, honey, and coriander (sooo delicious on eggs and home fries!). This chart explains so perfectly the difference between Sir Kensington’s classic variety and your usual ketchup:

Aside from the deliciousness, I love the shape of the glass jar and the old fashioned label. It really makes ketchup classier, don’t you think?

Unfortunately, it’s not widely available just yet, but you can purchase it from their shoppe, as well as select boutique grocers.

Let me know if you give it a try or already have!

Happy Weekend everyone!!

Van Leeuwen Ice Cream

I have been meaning to do a post about Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream and then when I was visiting Nikki last week, we spotted the truck! The perfect reminder and a chance to get a picture of the truck in person. However, the combination of having just finished a delicious and large brunch at The Park and it being 11am left us without the room nor the strong desire for a sweet treat. I know, sad because now I’m writing about it and unable to say for sure how delicious the ice cream is, but I have no doubts. All of their flavors (vanilla, chocolate, pistachio, hazelnut, ginger, coffee, giandujia, red currant, strawberry, and peppermint & chip) are 100% natural with 3 main ingredients: fresh hormone free milk/cream + egg yolks + pure cane sugar.  A husband and wife team started the company in Spring 2008 and already three of these cute yellow trucks can be spotted on the streets of New York City, as well as a new store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I love the story and the quality of the ice cream. Next time I see the truck I promise I’ll try it and report back. Or maybe Nikki will try sooner and let us know how it is! :)

What flavor is most appealing to you? Has anyone tried already?

Some of the Healthiest Chips in Existence!

I just mentioned kale in Monday’s post and it seemed like a lot of people were interested in finding out more ways to enjoy it… Well here is one easy way – try snacking on these delicious kale chips made by New York Naturals. Yes, I said “kale” before “chips” and “delicious” before “kale”. They are actually really good! They’re also 100% raw and vegan. How do they get cripsy you might ask? They are air-dried at 115 degrees for up to fifteen hours.

I’m a huge vegetable lover, especially of leafy greens like kale, so I was expecting to like them, but I wasn’t expecting that from everyone else… I’m happy to say that my husband and several friends are also now fans. My point: you don’t have to be a crazy vegetable lover to think these taste good. I definitely like the “cheese” (they’re vegan) the best, then the ranch and then the spicy miso while my husband says the exact opposite.  Decide for yourself – either order them online or visit a store currently keeping them in stock (the most options are not surprisingly in New York). Here’s a cute story about the creation of this kale centric company: .
