Maple Holistics Shampoo Review

When was the last time you changed up your shampoo? I recently tried a new shampoo by a brand called Maple Holistics, a company based in the USA making all natural, cruelty-free beauty products. Not only does it smell and work great, but it’s full of some really awesome natural ingredients that can improve scalp and hair health!

The product: Maple Holistic’s Tea Tree Oil Shampoo

What it’s good for: This sulfate-free shampoo is perfect for anyone looking to improve the health of their scalp and promote hair growth.

Key natural ingredients: With natural ingredients like tea tree oil, lavender oil, rosemary oil, argan oil and botanical keratin, this shampoo is really therapeutic to the scalp which is great news for anyone who struggles with dryness, itchiness, and/or dandruff.  Improving the health of your scalp is also a great holistic way to encourage healthy hair growth.

The price tag: $8.95 for an 8 once bottle, which is quite reasonable considering the high quality natural ingredients.

Where to buy: or

My favorite perk: Their free samples program where they give you the chance to try out their products at no cost to you! In addition to shampoo and other hair care products, they also have skin care and health food products.

Truly Unique Mascara!

Have you ever used a mascara that completely came off (I mean 100%!) with just water? I never had until I tried No7 Stay Perfect Mascara by Boots. I have been using it for over a year now and I still can’t believe that it completely comes off with water alone. AND that it’s actually a really awesome mascara!

The product: Boots No7 Stay Perfect Mascara – Black

What it’s good for: Defining and lengthening your eyelashes without clumping or smudging. Lasts all day and when you’re ready to take it off, you simply hold a cotton pad soaked in warm water over your eye for 30 seconds and then gently wipe away the little tubes of color that were covering your eyelashes. I actually don’t even use a cotton pad – just my fingers (gently) and warm water!

Key natural ingredients: kaolin  & beeswax

The price tag: $9.99

Where to buyBoots or Target

My favorite perk: I have two!

#1 – I actually found this magical wonder of a mascara when I was on EWG’s Skin Deep® Cosmetics Database looking for a healthier mascara. Stay Perfect scored a 2 (the closer to 0 the better/healthier).

#2 – Until I found this mascara, I rarely ever removed my mascara completely on the first try. I typically opted for an oil like jojoba as my mascara remover since it did the job and was nourishing rather than drying and harsh like a lot of makeup removers. With every previous mascara I’ve tried (including natural versions), I would always be taken a q-tip the next morning and removing leftover mascara from underneath my eyes. I used to hate it when I would have a hint of darkness under my eyes all day that only later would I realize was mascara, not lack of sleep.

With Boots No7 Stay Perfect Mascara, I have NEVER had any mascara left behind, but just as importantly, taking off my mascara each night could not be easier. If you’ve been frustrated with the effort it takes to remove your eye makeup and you also want to choose a healthier option then you should definitely try this mascara!

Miraculous Marula Oil

Using oil on our faces has become quite popular lately, but for good reason — facial oils can improve hydration levels, elasticity and overall skin quality.  I recently tried ACURE’s Marula Oil, which is 100% pure and wildcrafted without pesticides. If you’re familiar with argan or jojoba oil, marula oil is less heavy than argan and more similar to jojoba.

What is marula and where does it come from? The Marula tree is in the same family (Anacardiaceae) as the cashew, mango, and pistachio nut and is indigenous to Southern Africa.

The great thing about marula oil is that it works well for all skin types.  Aside from using it on my face and neck to moisturize and prevent fine lines, I’ve also loved using it as a split-end treatment and eye makeup remover.  When using the oil on your face or hair, a few drops go a long way so this bottle really lasts and is super reasonable at $15.99. The fact that it has no odor makes it an excellent choice for sensitive skin and/or sensitive noses.

It’s also nice to know that purchasing ACURE’s Marula Oil supports The Marula Project, which provides economic empowerment to the South African women who harvest and process the oil.

New Partnership & a New Line!

I have some news I’ve been meaning to share… I am now collaborating with House of Steep (soon to be a Tea House and Foot Sanctuary in the VA/DC area) to create part of their signature line of bath and beauty products! Currently, my foot and bath soaks and foot spray are available on House of Steep’s online store amongst a fabulous array of teas, candles and other goodies. I’ve made natural beauty products for years, but this is the first time I’ve done it professionally so I’m really excited to see this dream come true AND to launch my own beauty line as a result.

A couple of shots from creating the bath soaks…

(adding lavender to a batch of the Balanced & Carefree soak)

(some completed Grounded soaks)

The bath soaks are available in 3 varieties (notice each one has a type of tea included):

Balanced & Carefree – A stress-relieving combination of lavender and chamomile tea
Grounded – A stabilizing tonic of patchouli, cinnamon and ginger with oolong tea
Invigorating – A refreshing blend of peppermint and sweet orange with green tea

And the the Cleansing Calm Foot Spray is blend of black tea, peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus and tea tree oils, which is ideal for reducing foot odor and refreshing tired feet.

I hope you might give one (or more) of these a try. If you do, I would love to hear what you think. Thank you in advance for the support!

I recently discovered this site called Health Designs and decided to place a rare online order.  I have to say that I am loving this site now for two main reasons: (1) the wonderful selection of some of the best natural health and beauty products and (2) the awesome prices.  I found so many of my favorite brands at the lowest prices I’ve seen. Love that and love how you get to pick an unlimited amount of available free samples!

I’ve never been one for online shopping, but this is one website that makes me want to skip the health store.  Shipping is currently free on First Class USPS orders over $25 and it’s just so fun to see how much you can put in your shopping cart for that price point (my order below).  Also, if you’re a first time buyer use Discount Code FTC5DO to get $5 off your first order. Writing this post is really making me want to place another order today! I highly suggest checking them out –

This is exactly what I got for $25:

  • Avalon Organics, CoQ10 Facial Cleansing Milk 8.5 fl oz
  • Yogi, DeTox Tea 16 Tea Bags
  • Now Foods, Unsweetened Medium Coconut 10 oz
  • ShiKai, Hand & Body Lotion Honeysuckle 8 fl oz

The Still Point

The Still Point holistic spa is a little haven of tranquility just 15 minutes from downtown DC in Takoma, Maryland. I hadn’t had a facial in over a year so I decided to go with their most “basic” signature facial ($90), which isn’t really basic at all. It involved black algae, a hydrating mask of local honey, extractions, as well as sonic dermabrasion (there was more, but these were my favorite aspects).

Wondering what sonic dermabrasion is? Unlike harsher micro dermabrasion, sonic dermabrasion consists of a 100% painless pulsating tool that gently glides across the surface of the face, using ultrasound to exfoliate, hydrate and lift the skin.  It removed all of the dead skin and left my face so, so smooth. I think I am now obsessed. I wish I had opened my eyes because I’m curious what the tool looked like exactly, but it was definitely very gentle and I loved the results.

As you can see from the pictures, the outside of the spa is just adorable while the inside is perfectly serene. Aside from all of the services offered, they also have a boutique with an array of  natural products from many unique and harder-to-find lines. Another cool aspect of the spa – they are 100% wind powered!

If you live anywhere in the DC metro area, The Still Point is definitely worth the short trip. I really want to go back for another facial and to try out acupuncture for the first time!

Little Moon Essentials

Little Moon Essentials is by far one of my absolute favorite natural body care lines. Why haven’t I mentioned them by now? Honestly, I love so many of their products I just did not know where to start! Every single product from this line is just outrageously awesome and fun (interesting choice of adjectives I know, but you’ll see why). Let me start with a few examples…

Let’s start with their LIFT-OFF LOTION, which basically smells like a lemon ice covered in fresh mint leaves — a truly uplifting blend that has an energizing yet cooling effect on your skin. For that reason, this scent is particularly great for the daytime. It also works miraculously as an after-sun treatment! Keep it in the fridge to heighten its cooling and soothing effects. This is so perfect for summer.

You will never get more excited to take a bath than when you are about to immerse yourself in a tub of warm water infused with one of these bath salts. I have tried several of Little Moon’s bath salts and it’s hard to pick, but I think RE-LEASE might be my favorite. RE-LEASE is (not shockingly) relaxing, as well as elevating and purifying. It’s not just an emotional feeling of release – this mixture is physically detoxifying hence increasing ciruclation and the release of toxins. You’ll feel like a new gal (or guy) after 20 minutes of this highly restorative bath session. (This picture doesn’t have the bright sun and  heavenly sky for nothing)

This little tin below consistently has a home on my nightstand and always helps me doze off more peacefully with a few sniffs. I like to dab a little of the balm on my wrists, but you can also put it on your temples or neck. Like the bath salts, there is a whole array of balms including ACHING HEAD RUB, VITAL VAPOR (think an all natural vapo rub) and ASSANA KISSER (think an all natural tiger balm). At $2.50 per tin, I strongly recommend keeping all varieties on hand – you’ll have something for every ailment!

To me, this is one line that truly feels holistic. Once you experience the products then you’ll see what I mean. And once you try them, you won’t be surprised to know that the founder is a woman who exudes such an incredible joy for a life and shows the most genuine care for everyone she encounters.  I really appreciate a line that has such heart, making the use of every single one of its products a life-enhancing experience. Not to get too mushy, but really, I just love them!
